AMT PostPro SFX Vapor Smoothing System

Bringing industrial-grade finishing to your workbench, the AMT PostPro SFX represents the next generation of desktop vapour smoothing for SLS printed parts. Designed specifically to bridge the gap between additive manufacturing and injection moulding, the PostPro SFX transforms raw, porous powder-bed prints into ultra-smooth, sealed, and functional components.

Whether you are running an in-house R&D lab or a low-volume production line, the AMT PostPro SFX delivers automated chemical vapour smoothing in a compact, plug-and-play desktop form factor.

Key Features at a Glance

  • Injection-Moulded Surface Quality: Achieves dramatic reductions in average surface roughness (Ra), producing Class A/B visual finishes.
  • Hermetic Surface Sealing: Seals porous SLS materials, making parts 100% watertight, airtight, and wash-down ready.
  • Green Chemistry (PostPro Pure): Uses proprietary, eco-friendly solvent cartridges (FA5802) engineered for safe indoor operator environments.
  • Non-Line-of-Sight Process: Reaches complex interior channels, lattices, and undercuts that manual sanding or tumbling cannot touch.
  • Preserves Dimensional Integrity: Smooths surface peaks without altering part dimensions or critical tolerances.

True end-use parts

As selective laser sintering (SLS) desktop hardware becomes more accessible, post-processing remains the bottleneck to delivering true end-use parts. Raw SLS components inherently possess surface porosity and a powdery texture that can trap contaminants or compromise fluid tightness. Implementing desktop vapour smoothing for SLS unlocks direct end-use viability across demanding industries:

Medical & Healthcare

Unsealed SLS parts risk harboring bacteria. Vapour smoothing seals the surface matrix, yielding up to a 60% reduction in bacterial retention (such as MRSA). The result is skin-contact safe, cleanable, and sterilizable custom prosthetics, orthotics, and surgical guides.

Food Production & Packaging

Porous plastics cannot pass hygiene standards. The SFX system creates smooth, non-porous surfaces that prevent organic buildup and facilitate easy cleaning, enabling food-contact-safe prototype fixtures, nozzles, and custom machinery components.

UAVs & Aerospace

Aerodynamic performance depends on smooth airflows. Vapour smoothing reduces drag on drone wings, fairings, and internal ducting while sealing parts against moisture ingress and airborne debris—all without adding weight.

End-Use Manufacturing & Consumer Products

Ditch the “3D printed look.” Produce consumer electronics enclosures, automotive trim, and functional machinery parts that look, feel, and perform like mass-produced injection-moulded plastics.

    How Does Vapour Smoothing Work?

Unlike abrasive finishing (such as media blasting or vibratory tumbling) which wears away material, the AMT PostPro SFX uses a controlled chemical condensation process.

    1
    Vapor Vaporization & Circulation

The closed-loop chamber vaporizes a precise volume of AMT’s PostPro Pure solvent.

    2
    Selective Surface Melting

The solvent vapor circulates around suspended parts, briefly liquefying the outermost polymer layer on a microscopic level.

    3
    Reflow & Resealing

Surface tension causes the liquefied plastic to flow into micro-voids and valley structures.

    4
    Evaporation & Curing

Solvent vapor is safely evacuated and condensed, leaving behind a smooth, fully sealed, non-porous outer shell that preserves part geometry.

    The Workflow Process

The AMT PostPro SFX system makes vapour smoothing easy and intuitive.

    1
    Print & Clean

Print your parts on your SLS system (e.g., Formlabs Fuse Series, HP MJF, etc.) and perform standard media de-powdering.

    2
    Rack

Hang or place parts on the included processing racks to allow total 360-degree vapor exposure.

    3
    Load Cartridge & Run

Load the safe FA5802 solvent cartridge, select your pre-configured material profile via the touchscreen, and hit start.

    4
    Unload Finished Parts

Once the automated cycle completes, remove completely dry, fully sealed, finished end-use parts.

      Frequently Asked Questions

The process works in four automated steps inside a sealed chamber:

Part Conditioning: Parts are placed inside the chamber and prepared under controlled temperature and vacuum conditions.

Processing: AMT’s proprietary solvent vapor (PostPro PURE / FA5202) is injected into the chamber. The vapor evenly condenses across complex geometries, melting away surface peaks and micro-cavities.

Curing: The vapor is evacuated, allowing the surface material to resolidify uniformly.

Drying: The system thoroughly dries the parts, leaving them sealed, smooth, water-resistant, and ready for immediate end use.

Printing Technologies: Multi Jet Fusion (MJF), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Selective Absorption Fusion (SAF) and High Speed Sintering (HSS). Some FDM can also be compatible but depends on the material.

Materials: Rigid engineering plastics and elastomers including Polyamides (PA11, PA12), Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), and Polypropylene (PP) (using dedicated media).

Yes. AMT’s desktop systems utilize PostPro PURE (FA5202) consumable chemistry, which is non-hazardous and environmentally friendly. The closed-loop vacuum design ensures operator safety during processing. Additionally, treated parts are safe for skin contact and compliant with food contact standards depending on the base polymer.

Vapor smoothing only treats the outer surface layer (the “peaks and valleys” left by powder bed fusion) without affecting core dimensions or mechanical strength. In fact, sealing the surface pores improves mechanical performance by reducing moisture absorption and increasing tensile strength and fatigue resistance.

There is no upgrade program for the Fuse 1 series to the Fuse X1. Fuse X1 is not a new version of Fuse 1+ 30W, it is a separate product category.
